Roomex is the hotel-booking workflow platform for business. The purpose of this Design Sprint is to visualize the Roomex 3-year-vision and demonstrate the concept prototype for the board meeting.
Here is the punchline: We only have 3 days to utilize.
A design sprint is a flexible timeboxed problem solving framework for rapidly solving big challenges and creating new products. The Google Design Sprint framework is a full 5-day session includes 6 recommended phases: Understand, Define, Sketch, Decide, Prototype, and Test. In reality, it is extremely difficult to commit the long period of time, especially for the c-level and upper management. So I have to consolidate and eliminate a few sessions from the Google version, and come up with our own - Roomex Design Sprint to achieve our goal.
The final outcome for our Design Sprint is to clearly visualize the Roomex 3-year-vision and demonstrate the concept with a high-fidelity prototype.
Before the 1st session, I introduced the 4 key principles and overall process with the team members.
We have completed most of the heavy lifting in day 1: Define, Discover, Exploration and Sketch. In day 2, our focus is on making Decisions and narrowing down the flow of prototype. One thing we did differently here is, we skipped the 6-micro-step storyboard session and replaced it with an overall journey of the business traveller in order to set the context and clearly demonstrate our vision.
The biggest challenge I have is to create an overall journey for the app instead of the micro-step of the product, plus the design part is all on my shoulders. Good news is I have created the Roomex Design System from the previous Roomex hotel booking engine, so I can recycle most of the components and don’t have to start my design from scratch.
Our vision of future business travelling are focusing on 3 aspects, which are Booking, Expense and Report. We believe they are the essential needs for business on the move.
